Installation Restoration (IR) Sites Background
Since the inception of the IR Program, efforts have been made by MCAS Miramar IR Program personnel in conjunction with Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest (NAFVACSW) program managers to identify, assess, and remediate contaminated sites on MCAS Miramar.
IR Program personnel coordinate with the state regulatory agency, the California Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB), which oversee the cleanup activities on base. Initially, ten potentially contaminated sites were identified under the IR Program in 1984. Since that time, eight additional IR Sites were subsequently added, resulting in a total of 18 IR Sites. Currently, seven IR Sites remain active in MCAS Miramar’s IR Program.
The table (below) summarizes the active IR Sites on MCAS Miramar. For a visual reference of the active IR Sites on base, click on the map to view a larger version. (IR Sites are represented by yellow shading.)
