Community Relations
In December 2007, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar's Installation Restoration Program developed a Community Relations Plan (CRP), which served as an update to the original 1995 CRP. It is in compliance with federal and state guidelines and requirements, in accordance with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) of 1980, as amended by the Superfund Amendment and Reauthorization Act (SARA) of 1986.
The CRP discusses community members’ feedback regarding environmental cleanup activities on MCAS Miramar; describes the ways in which the Marine Corps will provide information to residents and interested groups; and outlines methods for the public to raise issues and concerns to the Marine Corps. This plan also provides background data on the base itself, environmental cleanup activities, and the regulatory requirements for those activities. It presents an overview of the greater Miramar community, and a summary of the community interviews conducted in October 2007. In addition, it offers community relations strategies for the Marine Corps to improve communications with the surrounding community. In accordance with feedback received during the community interview process, the Marine Corps has initiated enhanced community outreach through the implementation of strategies outlined in the CRP. |
What is a
Community Relations Plan?
A Community Relations Plan, or CRP,
is the foundation for the
Community Relations Program on a
Superfund Site.
It specifies the outreach activities that
the facility and regulatory officials
will use to address community concerns
and expectations,
as learned from Community Interviews.
Because the CRP is a public document
that is readily available to the community,
it is also something that local residents
can use to make sure that base
and regularoty officials are responsive.
